ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Established in the year 1978, the Dispur College Central Library is one of the pioneer centre to provide knowledge not only to its stake holders, but also to the society. The college library is a learning resource centre for the users (students, teachers, staffs and other social stakeholders). Users can access the wide range of resources comprising of text and reference books (Indian and international authors), newspapers, periodicals etc. The Central Library is catering to the needs of its users by providing every possible services with its resources.
The Library building was renovated in the year 2021 with RUSA 1.0 Grant. It has a sitting capacity of 57, both in new and old building. The Library has Textbook Section and Reading room in the Old building and in the New building, it has sections like Property Counter, Reference Books Shelves, Teacher’s Reading Room, Librarian’s Room, Library Assistant’s Room, Reading Section, Journal and Magazine Section, Newspaper Section, E-Resource Centre and a Computer Section (only for the Library Official works).
The Central Library has been automated through KOHA Software and all the housekeeping works of the Library are being maintained by KOHA Software. There is a Digital Library Corner, where all the Digital works of the Library are being done through DSpace Software. E-Resource Centre has desktops for the users to access the internet freely, strictly for the academic purpose only.
In the initial stage, Library collection was very less (2000 approx.) and Assam Type Library Old building was there. Over the time, the Library collection increased. The founder Librarian was Mrs. Minu Devi (01/04/92 to 31/12/12), Library Assistant Mrs. Binita Rabha (01/04/92 to 30/04/21) and Library Bearer Mr. Ajit Malakar (Since 01/04/92).
Mission
- To make aware the users about the resources (both print and digital) and services of the Library.
- To provide Extension Services to the society.
- To instill reading habit to the users, so that they can use the library resources fully.
- To collaborate with other colleges and institutions for resource sharing.
- To organize workshops, awareness programmes on e-resources to the users.
Vision
As a Knowledge Centre of the College, the Central Library imparts knowledge to all through its available resources. It aims to make the users aware about the e-resources along with the print collections, as in today’s digital world, one has to be ICT enabled person to browse the holdings of a Hybrid Library.
